About

The National Celtic Festival has established a strategic partnership with Fèis Rois to foster musical and cultural exchange between Australia and Scotland. The partnerhip is focused on facilitating the exchange and exploration of Celtic traditional music between some of our most promising musicians.

Fèis Rois is recognised internationally as one of Scotland’s leading arts organisations. In addition to providing opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the traditional arts, it also aims to raise awareness of the Gaelic language and to connect people to Gaelic culture.

Traditional music is an important part of Australia’s past and heritage. The large numbers of Irish and Scottish people who came to Australia, as well as the migrants who have settled here since, brought their music and language with them. It has continued to thrive to this day, and has taken on its own unique Australian character.

This year, the partnership has taken an exciting new direction to incorporate the Celtic Colours International Festival, based on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada. Celtic Colours is one of the world's premier Celtic music festivals. This year, two young musicians travelled from Cape Breton to Australia to represent Celtic Colours and participate in the workshops held with local musicians, the Ceilidh Trail and performances at the National Celtic Festival.

This project seeks to establish ongoing cultural exchange between Australia, Scotland and Canada through sharing the traditional music of our respective heritages and cultural history. Traditional music is an essential component of culture, and reflects the diversity and vibrancy our nations.
